There’s more to hosting a successful meeting than meets the eye. Depending on the setup and outcome you wish to achieve there are a number of things that all meeting planners should pay attention to in ensuring their meeting will go off without a hitch.
In this three-part post we will look at nine meeting planning mistakes you should avoid at all costs.
Setting unrealistic time frames
Setting time frames that are unrealistically long or short are one of the main reasons that meetings go off track. If people feel like they need to rush through the agenda, your attendees will lose interest. The same can be said for time frames that are too long and leave room for speakers to ramble on or leave attendees standing around for long periods of time between between speakers.

Cramming the agenda
While long drawn out meetings are a thing of the past and shorter meetings reign supreme, this doesn’t mean you need to cram as much as you can into the designated meeting time. You need to have realistic expectations about what can and cannot be accomplished in a given time frame so that you can give enough time to the issues that are really important.
Failing to make meetings interactive
No one wants to go to a meeting or event where all they do is spectate. Try to incorporate segments that improve the interaction between your attendees and speakers. Include segments where your attendees feel free to engage with each other and learn new things.
